Description: Máté Tamás Koch (born July 18, 1999) is a Hungarian épée fencer who claimed victory in the Men's épée competition at the 2023 World Fencing Championships. He resides in Budapest, Hungary, and trains at Vasas SC, under the guidance of coach Péter Halla.
About: In April 2017, at the 2017 Junior World Fencing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, he secured a bronze medal in team épée representing Hungary. Subsequently, in January 2018, he claimed a bronze medal in men's épée at the 2018 European Junior Championships. Continuing his success, he attained a gold medal in team men's épée at the 2019 European Junior Championships in January 2019, once again representing Hungary. In April 2019, at the 2019 Junior World Fencing Championships in Toruń, Poland, he achieved a team gold medal with Hungary. Adding to his accolades, in June 2023, he triumphed with a gold medal in the men's épée team event representing Hungary at the 2023 European Games in Kraków, Poland. Further underscoring his prowess, he clinched the 2023 World Men's Épée Championship in Milan, Italy. Notably, in the last three rounds, he emerged victorious against formidable opponents, including teammate and former world champion Gergely Siklósi, Ruslan Kurbanov of Kazakhstan, and Davide Di Veroli of Italy.
