About: Born in Guadeloupe, an overseas region of France, Borel faced a pivotal decision at the age of ten when choosing between fencing and gwo ka, a traditional Guadeloupean music genre. Opting for fencing due to its proximity to his school and the involvement of several friends, he embarked on his journey under the guidance of coaches Rudy Plicoste and Barbara Paulin. Influenced by five-time Olympic medalist Laura Flessel, also hailing from Guadeloupe, Borel found inspiration to pursue his passion. At fifteen, Borel caught the eye of France's head coach Jérôme Roussat, who extended an invitation to join the national junior training center in Reims, mainland France. Initially declined by his parents, who prioritized his high school education, Borel eventually gained permission after completing his baccalauréat in 2007. Balancing his training with studies in physical therapy, he quickly made his mark, earning a place in the French national junior team. His achievements included a silver medal at the Junior European Championships in Prague and notable victories at international events such as the Herakled Cup in Budapest and the Uhlmann Cup in Laupheim. Additionally, Borel claimed the title of junior national champion, solidifying his position as a rising star in the fencing world.
