Full Description: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (Punjabi: ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੰਧੂ; born 3 February 1992) is an Indian professional footballer renowned for his role as a goalkeeper, representing both the Indian Super League club Bengaluru and the India national team. Widely regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers in Indian football history, Sandhu has left an indelible mark on the sport. In a significant moment, Sandhu was appointed captain of the India national team for the first time during a friendly match against Puerto Rico on 3 September 2016. This match resulted in a triumphant 4–1 victory for India, marking a notable milestone in Sandhu's career. His career boasts numerous achievements, including being the inaugural Indian to compete in a competitive match for the first team of a top-division European club. He follows in the footsteps of esteemed predecessors such as Mohammed Salim, Bhaichung Bhutia, Sunil Chhetri, and Subrata Pal, becoming the fifth Indian to play professionally in Europe. Notably, Sandhu holds the distinction of being the first Indian to grace the UEFA Europa League with his participation.
