Deepika Kumari

Full Description: Deepika Kumari, born on June 13, 1994, is an accomplished Indian archer, receiving support from OGQ. Her achievements include clinching a gold medal in the women's individual recurve event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, as well as securing another gold alongside Dola Banerjee and Bombayala Devi in the women's team recurve event at the same competition. She has notably triumphed in individual competitions at two out of three stages of the World Cup, triumphing in Guatemala and Paris, where she also regained the top spot in rankings after nine years. Kumari's success extends to winning individual gold medals at the Archery World Cup Stage 1 and defeating Mexico 5–1 in the Paris final to claim another gold. Qualifying for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Kumari competed in both the Women's Individual and Women's Team events, achieving eighth place in the latter. Her remarkable talent and dedication were recognized with the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2012 by the then President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. Additionally, she was honored with the FICCI Sportsperson of the Year Award in February 2014. In acknowledgment of her contributions to sports, the Government of India bestowed upon her the Padma Shri, a civilian honor, in 2016.
