Description: Balraj Panwar, hailing from Haryana, is an Indian rower specializing in the men's single sculls category. He successfully secured his spot in the men's single sculls event at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, marking a significant achievement in his career.
About: Panwar, a native of Kaimla village in the Gharaunda subdivision of Karnal, Haryana, was born into humble beginnings. His father, Randhir, passed away when he was just 10 years old, leaving his mother, Kamala, to raise him and his four siblings. To make ends meet, Kamala took on various odd jobs, including picking vegetables, selling milk, and working at construction sites or in wheat fields. She also found employment at a garment factory. Despite facing hardships, Panwar persevered and eventually got married, becoming a father himself. To support his family financially, he enlisted in the Indian Army as a sepoy and was initially stationed at the Bengal Engineering Group. Currently, he is dedicatedly preparing for the Olympics at the Army Training Node in Pune, starting from October 2021. Under the guidance of National coach Ismail Baig and the mentorship of 2008 Olympian Bajrang Lal Takhar, Panwar is diligently honing his skills for the upcoming competition.
