About: Valerio, son of the Olympic champion Sandro Cuomo from Atlanta in 1996, and older brother of Fabrizio, also an accomplished fencer, took his first steps in the world of fencing at the age of 11. Under the guidance of Maestro Carmine Carpenito, former coach of the Italian national épée team, Valerio began his journey with a plastic foil before transitioning to épée. Hailing from Campania, Valerio achieved his initial successes in the "gpg" category, becoming a regional champion in the sword event held in Caserta on January 23, 2010. Shortly after, he secured a silver medal at the Italian team championships in the "very young" category in Novara, competing alongside his roommates Ennio Capaldo and Gennaro Maria Vitelli. Valerio's first taste of international individual success came in 2015 in Bratislava, where he clinched the gold medal at the final stage of the European Cadet circuit (u17). This achievement earned him a spot on the national youth team as they prepared for the World Championships in Tashkent.
