Chanu Saikhom Mirabai

Full Description: Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, born on August 9, 1994, is an Indian weightlifter who receives support from OGQ. She clinched the gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, lifting a total of 201 kg. Notably, she also won the silver medal in the Women's 49 kg category at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Throughout her career, Mirabai Chanu has achieved success at the World Championships and garnered multiple medals at the Commonwealth Games. Recognizing her significant contributions to the sport, the Government of India honored her with the Padma Shri award. Additionally, she received the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna sporting honor from the Government of India in 2018. Chanu's remarkable performances include winning the silver medal in the women's 48 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She further elevated her status by breaking the games record and securing the gold medal at the 2018 edition held in Gold Coast. A pinnacle in her career came in 2017 when she clinched the gold medal at the World Weightlifting Championships held in Anaheim, California. Notably, Chanu held the world record in Clean & Jerk in the 49 kg category until it was surpassed by a Chinese lifter. In 2022, she assumed the role of brand ambassador for the I-League club NEROCA.
